London is a vibrant city with lots of history. And I adore the shopping there. If a trip to London, England is in your future this list will help you discover how to play, shop and eat in a town with lovely shops, a busy (and unfortunately overcrowded) Underground and several historic landmarks.
Play
There is a lot of history in London. The city is a great place to learn about another country that also speaks English so it's a great place to take kids to learn about another culture. Historic sites not to be missed include: Buckingham Palace, Tower of London and Westminster Abbey. And the Victoria and Albert Museum is worth a visit too.
Shop
The best shops to visit that are in the downtown core and worth your time are: Orla Kiely (the dresses are lovely, I bought one), Liberty of London, Harrods, Selfridges and this awesome bike store: Bobbin Bicycles (pictured above, where I bought a cool bike bell and chic bike helmet by Yakkay). Update: Yakkay is now making helmets for the U.S. market too. And Labour and Wait in East London offers new and vintage clothing and housewares.
Eat
London is not known for the best food, however, you can find plenty to eat at local "pubs" (you have to go up to the counter to order they don't come to your table) or dine at local restaurants. And make sure to take a proper "afternoon tea" like the London locals. Some tea rooms worth noting are: The Langham at Palm Court, Afternoon Tea at the Ritz (for those without nut allergies) or The Dorchester. A great London place for afternoon tea with kids is The Orangery (at Kensington Palace). Just be sure if you are asked if you want Champagne to say "no" if you don't want to pay for it. It's not included in most afternoon tea visits. For an upscale dinner fare don't miss the 28°-50° Wine Workshop & Kitchen.
