My friend Jul and my hubby Jeff are both history buffs. In fact Jeff is fascinated with his Band of Brothers blu-ray set. So we decided since we have a car during our stay in France that we would use it to drive to Normandy (about a three hour drive Northwest of Paris or 176 miles from Paris to Omaha Beach in Normandy). The famous site of D-Day.
I remember watching the movie Saving Private Ryan with my dad (also a history buff - he holds a degree in it) when it came out in 1998. Only a few minutes into that film I felt sick to my stomach and covered my eyes. It rattled me. So visiting the beach will be humbling.
Other road trips to consider if you have a car during your stay in Paris:
- Chantilly is 24 miles from Paris (home of a famous horse racing track and a chateau).
- Fountainebleau is 34.5 miles from Paris (known for a famous chateau and large forest).
- Reims is 80 miles from Paris (and is one of the centers of champagne production in France).
- Rouen is 81 miles from Paris (the capital city of Normandy is just off the route on your way to Omaha Beach from Paris).
- Chambord is 112 miles from Paris (home of the famous Chambord castle).
