Play. Shop. Eat. Madrid, Spain

The highlight of my trip to Madrid was sneaking into the Plaza de Toros (shown above). Even though I understood Spanish, I pretended not to speak it because I wanted to get a shot of the stadium pre-bullfight. Mission accomplished. If a trip to Madrid, Spain is in your future this list will help you discover how to play, shop and eat in a city full of well-dressed and beautiful people.

Play
You could book tickets to watch a bullfight at the Plaza de Toros. I preferred to see the stadium pre-bullfight instead of an actual bullfight. Experience live Flamenco or visit one of several museums.

Shop
Madrid is where I first learned about the Mango store and saw the flagship Zara store. And since then Spain has really grown into a shopping mecca. The Centro Comercial Plenilunio boasts over 200 stores. And the Goya & Salamanca areas along the famous Serrano street offer a plethora of shopping.

Eat
Ham is very popular in Spain. Other cuisine is certainly available. The oldest restaurant in the world (according to the Guinness Book of Records) is in Madrid, it's called Botín. El Invernadero offers Mediterranean cuisine in a 19th Century building. And La Corral de la Morería is considered Madrid's best Flamenco restaurant.
